About the Book
Finding himself the man of the family, London dancing master Alec Valcourt moves his mother and sister to remote Devonshire, hoping to start over. But he is stunned to learn the village matriarch has prohibited all dancing, for reasons buried deep in her past. Alec finds an unlikely ally in the matriarch’s daughter. With Alec’s help, can Julia uncover old secrets and restore life to her somber village…and to her mother’s tattered heart? Filled with mystery and romance, The Dancing Master brings to life the intriguing profession of those who taught essential social graces for ladies and gentlemen hoping to make a “good match” in Regency England.
My thoughts on the book
I’ve never read a book by Julie Klassen, but I will be looking for more in the future. I enjoyed her writing style, and I loved the story. I was captivated from the start, and there was just enough intrigue and mystery to keep me drawn in through the end. I thought the characters were well developed, and I loved the interaction between them. I love books from this time period. Julie Klassen tells a story of what can happen when one lets anger and bitterness become the center of their lives and then how forgiveness can change a life. Miss Midwinter is a spunky, flirtatious young lady looking for a love to fill the void her absent father left. Alec Valcourt is a newcomer to town who that he is unable to pursue his dreams. As Julia and Alec begin to unravel the pieces to a mysterious puzzle, they find themselves falling for each other. As a Downton Abbey fan, I found myself reading the dialogue in this story with a certain Crowley accent.
