I mentioned last week that Emma is obsessed with animals. I shared a list of books for horse lovers. She loves dogs more than she loves horses. Her favorite You Tube channel is all about Huskies.
She dreams of being a vet, and she is making plans to make gourmet dog treats to sell this summer. Because she also loves to read, she often looks for dog-themed books when we stop at the library.
Here’s a fun list of chapter books that are all about dogs. I read Lassie Come Home to her earlier this year. She read Thunder from the Sea last year, and she has several of these on her library wish list.
Chapter Books for Dog Lovers
A Dog’s Life: Autobiography of a Stray: When Bone and Squirrel become separated, Squirrel must fend for herself, and in the process makes two friends who in very different ways define her fate.

Thunder from the Sea: In this novel set in Newfoundland in 1929, 13-year-old Tom Campbell, an orphan, travels to Back o’ the Moon Island to live with and work for Enoch and Fiona Murray. On his first fishing trip, he rescues a young Newfoundland dog from the sea during a storm and names him Thunder.

Listen!: Charley knows a lot about pain. She endures it when she walks on her newly shattered leg, she sees it when her father buries himself in an eighty-hour work week, and she runs from it when she sees photographs her mother took before her death. Then one day, Charley meets a wild, abused dog that knows as much about pain as she does, and, despite herself, she feels an immediate connection and vows to help him. But how will one heartbroken girl help mend the battered spirit of an untamable dog?
The Good Dog: McKinley, a malamute, is a good dog — he’s reliable and trustworthy. Whether it’s watching over the other dogs of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, or taking care of his human pup, Jack, McKinley never even thinks of letting anyone down — until he meets Lupin. Lupin is a she-wolf and she’s urging the dogs of Steamboat Springs to leave their domesticated lives and join her wild pack. And though she scares McKinley, he also finds himself drawn to her and the life of freedom that she offers.
