I was sponsored by World News Group to review their WORLDkids magazine and am excited to share my experience as well as an awesome giveaway! All opinions are mine alone.
In our homeschool, it is very important to me that my kids be aware of what’s going on in the world around them. We start most mornings watching CNN Student News and discussing what’s going on across the country and around the world.
Some days, though, we don’t have time to watch. We have to head out the door early for co-op, or we have an early appointment. Sometimes, Emma sleeps in and we wind up doing the last of her assignments in the car on the way to and from ballet class.
Keeping Up with Current Events
On those days, it much easier to grab a copy of WORLDteen Magazine to read in the car. Emma had a chance to read the September/October edition on her iPad recently on our way to ballet. It was packed with articles and stories that related to topics that we have been discussing lately. It was also full of some interesting new things, as well.
First, my animal-obsessed tween was intrigued by a story a luxury pet terminal at JFK airport complete with a dog-shaped pool. Now, she’s trying to concoct a way for us to “have” to travel there for a field trip!
Second, there was a short article about StitchFix which she thought was funny, because I just recently discovered StitchFix. I’m currently awaiting my second shipment, and she enjoyed a little behind-the-scenes peek.
Then, she thought it was interesting to read about scientists creating hurricanes in the lab so that they can study and predict weather patterns. In light of the recent hurricane that caused flooding in South Carolina, she thought that was a pretty neat story.
She was especially intrigued by stories about trolls in the Russian media, the North Korean government, and the fact that Iran’s government prohibits women from attending sporting events. She’s very interested in learning about what’s going on in the world around her, but she doesn’t have time to watch the news daily – nor do I want her to.
My favorite part is that all of the news is presented from a Biblical worldview. That presents an opportunity for unique conversations i our house since the CNN Student News is NOT presented from a Christian worldview. We get to discuss the differences in perspective.
Along with the magazine, your subscription provides access to their website. There you will find even more stories along with videos and quizzes. It’s a great place for tweens and teens to dig a little deeper into the topics that interest him.
