Last month, Isaac, Emma, and I tagged along on Matt’s business trip to Chicago. I had never been, and I was excited to explore with my kids while Matt was in his meetings and at his dinners. One of the places that I was really excited to visit was the Shedd Aquarium. The Shedd is one of the world’s largest indoor aquariums.
We love to visit aquariums, and the Shedd did not disappoint. From the fish and anemone to the sharks and beluga whales, there was something awesome to see around every corner!
The Shedd Aquarium is a great place to visit whether your on vacation, taking a “staycation,” or visiting for a homeschool field trip. It only took us a few hours to see everything, and then we got to enjoy the Beluga whale show. That was really cool, because we had never seen Beluga whales before. Em, our resident animal lover, loved the dolphins, sea lion, and dog that were a part of the show, as well.
She also loved the penguin exhibit. The Shedd worker who was at the exhibit that day was so sweet to her. She had a lot of questions, and he took the time to answer each and every one.
Emma thought the best part, though, was the sting ray touch tank! The tank is outside, but it is under a shelter. It is pretty large, and there are quite a few big and small rays swimming around. Yes, you can actually touch them! Really, it was very cool. I highly recommend going to this area when you visit the Shedd Aquarium. We’ve been to aquariums where we touched starfish (which you can also do here), but never have we been able to touch the rays.
If you are planning a visit to Chicago, definitely add the Shedd Aquarium to your list of sites to see. It only takes a few hours to see the whole thing so you have plenty of time to explore more sites or hit the beach for the afternoon. You and your children will love this unique and exciting place to visit!
Thank you to the Shedd Aquarium for providing my family with free passes. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit!
