I’m not usually one for playing board games at my house. However, I do enjoy a good game that makes everyone laugh and interact. Buying properties as I travel around a board for hours is not my idea of fun.
However, when I read the description of Wonky: The Crazy Cubes Card Game and Tapple: Fast Word Fun for Everyone by USAopoly, I was intrigued. They both seemed to fit my requirements for a fun family game night.
I’m glad I took a chance on these games, because they were both so much fun! Let me tell you a little about each of them before I tell you what we thought.
Wonky: The Crazy Cubes Card Game
Wonky: The Crazy Cubes Card Game is a fun game for ages 8 and up. This fun, fast-paced game is based on the nine “wonky” blocks included. Players draw a card that shows which block they must place on the tower. The first player to run out of cards or to place the last block on the tower is the winner. This is a very easy game to learn, and it is fun for the whole family.
Tapple: Fast Word Fun for Everyone
Tapple: Fast Word Fun for Everyone is another fun game for ages 8 and up. The Tapple wheel has 20 letters on it – excluding Q, U, V, X, Y, and Z. The first player picks a category card and says a word that fits that category. Then, they tap the letter their word starts with and pass the wheel. The next player has ten seconds to name another word in the category that begins with a letter that hasn’t been ‘tapped’ on the wheel. Play continues until all of the letters have been tapped or a player runs out of time.
Our Opinions of the Games
I’ve mentioned on here before that I am not a huge fan of board games. They often seem to drag on and on forever, and I lose interest. However, these are not board games. Both of these games are fast-paced, and they require quite a bit of interaction. They were both a hit!
Wonky is fun, because you have to try to build a tower with curved blocks. Players draw a card which tells them what blocks to place on the tower next – a blue block, the smallest purple block, etc. It’s much harder than it looks, because one corner on each block is curved. And, when you have to start your tower with a small block… you better watch out!
Tapple is fun, because it’s so fast-paced. With only ten seconds to think of a word that starts with one of the un-tapped letters and fits the category can be quite difficult the longer the round is played. There’s a lot of what we like to call speed-shouting… you know, the louder you say it the faster it will come out of your mouth. 🙂
I highly recommend both of these games. They’re great family game night games. They’re great for kids to play with friends of all ages, because there is little to no reading involved.
