Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching, and my crafty girl is hard at work! She loves to explore different art media – chalks, paints, pastels, etc. You name it, she wants to try it. So, when she sat down the other day with her oil pastels, I asked her to create a simple Valentine’s Day art project.
All you need is a box of oil pastels and some art paper. Actually, this project could be done with colored pencils or crayons. Each art medium would have a different effect as far as brilliancy and the boldness of the color. Each medium, however, would work equally well.
Start by drawing hears on the paper. You can have your children draw some so that they ‘hang off’ the side of the page.
Then, have your children begin outlining each heart with different colors. It’s best to draw one outline around each heart before moving to round two. When the outlines begin to overlap, the artwork becomes more interesting as the child chooses which heart to complete and which heart to partially outline.
The finish product will be unique to each creator. That’s one of my favorite parts of this project.
