Several years ago, Matt had a business trip in Bentonville, Arkansas. Em had a dance competition in Oklahoma City the weekend prior so we decided to tag along since Bentonville was just a few hours away. I was so glad we did. We found a great place to explore while Matt has at his meetings. We dropped him off at the office, and then we headed to War Eagle Mill for the day.
The setting was just beautiful. From the river to the mill to the old bridge, we had so much fun exploring the area and learning a bit about its history. The plaque below tells about its history and the dates commemorate each of the four times the mill had to be rebuilt.
War Eagle Mill is a working mill. They grind their grains daily to produce organic, non-GMO flours and baked goods. It was neat to watch this gentleman pour in the grains and explain the process to us. He was so sweet to answer the kids’ questions even though he was hard at work.
We loved exploring the beautiful area. From the mill itself to the river to the old wooden bridge, we didn’t have any problem finding things to explore to occupy our time while Daddy was in his meetings.
If you’re ever within driving distance of Bentonville, Arkansas, you should definitely visit the War Eagle Mill. Explore the grounds. Watch them grind flour. Taste some of their yummy baked goods. Eat lunch in their cafe. It’s a beautiful place to visit, and a great inexpensive Staycation idea!
